For us, sustainability is neither an add-on nor a promise.
It is the prerequisite for this place to exist at all.

A tree house hotel at treetop level can only be justified if the architecture, operation and attitude are in harmony with the landscape. Not as an ideal, but as daily practice. Quiet, consistent and without staging.

A place that shows consideration

The Ostsee Baumhaushotel was born out of the desire to create a place that is not demanding, but supportive. A retreat that offers peace and quiet without overpowering nature.

Our tree houses are raised on stilts, with minimal impact on the ground. The landscape remains legible, paths remain soft, transitions flowing. We do not build into nature - we subordinate ourselves to it.

A place in harmony with the landscape

Our site is located on the edge of a landscape conservation area - a transition between a landscaped area and open nature.

For us, this means not only restraint in construction, but also active responsibility for the environment.

In addition to the required compensatory measures, we planted more than 200 trees and around 2,500 new shrubs last year. Around 7 hectares of former arable land were renaturalised and converted into pastures, orchards and open sandy areas for insects. In addition, a two-kilometre-long embankment was built around the site.

Further areas of around 8 hectares are currently in preparation.

Step by step, a landscape area is being created that will not only be preserved, but also allowed to develop further.

For us, sustainability means one thing above all: doing less, not more.

Known from the ADAC travel magazine

The Ostsee Baumhaushotel was presented as a sustainable hotel concept in the ADAC Reisemagazin Spezial in the cover story "Nature at eye level".

Reduction instead of abundance

We don't believe in maximum capacity utilisation, permanent occupancy or growth at any price.
Our facility is deliberately kept small. Spacing is part of the concept. Silence is not a by-product, but a goal.

This reduction is reflected

• in the number of tree houses

• in the clear architecture

• in the absence of entertainment, events or artificial experiences

What remains is space. For nature. For time. For relaxation.

Built regionally. Designed to last.

Our tree houses were planned together with regional craftsmen and realised within a radius of around 20 kilometres. Short distances, familiar materials and quality craftsmanship characterise the construction method.

We rely on:

• durable, low-maintenance materials

• well thought-out constructions instead of quick solutions

• sustainable construction methods with point foundations to protect the soil

For us, sustainability is not reflected in labels, but in decisions that endure.

Operation with responsibility

We also pay attention to the conscious use of resources in our day-to-day operations:

• energy-efficient buildings

• Digital processes instead of paper

• Conscious waste avoidance and recycling

• Regional products in the farm shop and bistro

How sustainability manifests itself in everyday life

• Insulation of our tree houses with natural sheep's wool
• Use of thermally treated wood instead of chemical impregnation
• Deliberate avoidance of materials contaminated with harmful substances and therefore no hazardous waste generated
• Use of biodegradable cleaning agents (e.g. from sustainable manufacturers such as Marcel's Green Soap)
• Use of sustainable consumables (e.g. recycled paper from Goldeimer)
• Focus on regional and - where possible - organic products in the farm shop and bistro
• Conscious waste avoidance and separation in daily operations

Not everything will be perfect. But everything will be scrutinised.

People at the centre

For us, sustainability does not end with materials or energy. It also includes how we treat each other.

The Ostsee Baumhaushotel is owner-managed and family-run. The property has been family-owned since 1870. This long connection to the region brings with it responsibility - for employees, neighbours and guests.
