Our history - A place through the ages
This place has been part of our family for around 140 years.
Situated in the centre of the village of Wangels, it has never been a backdrop - but always part of life.

The main building was once used as a farm. The large hall served as a military hospital during the war. Later, over the decades, it became a village restaurant, a meeting place for encounters, parties and conversations. In the 80s and 90s, it was even a local discotheque - lively, open, in the centre of the village.
Our grandmother ran the restaurant until 1990, after which it was run by the family until 2024. The agricultural land remained in family hands, was leased and farmed - part of an evolved cultural landscape.
Everything thought together again
What had been separated by inheritance over time was deliberately brought back together in the next generation. A step that was considered unusual even by the notary - and for us was an expression of a clear attitude: this place should be thought of as a whole. Not out of nostalgia, but out of responsibility for what this place can be.

And so an idea with a clear structure took shape.
The former village restaurant now forms the heart of the treehouse hotel – housing the reception, farm shop and, in future, the events area. It is no longer a traditional village centre, but a place that deliberately opens itself up to guests. People still meet here, just in a different setting.
The approximately 25 hectares of farmland on the edge of an alder swamp forest have been transformed into a space for the treehouses. The adjacent areas are being renaturalised step by step. As part of this process, our nature trail – some 2.5 kilometres long – has also been created, inviting visitors to experience the landscape mindfully and discover the area in all its depth.
Development and planning of our current treehouse hotel began in 2018. We already had experience with unique accommodation – since 2016, through our houseboats, we had seen just how much extraordinary places can help people slow down.
This gave rise to the idea of developing a small, nature-oriented treehouse hotel on our land: with treehouses built high up on stilts, extraordinary architecture and minimal impact on the ground. The landscape was not to become mere scenery, but was to remain an integral part of the overall concept.
Step by step, over several years, this evolved into today’s Baltic Sea Treehouse Hotel.
This development is driven by the three of us: Tatjana, Christian and Oliver – united as a family and jointly responsible for this place. We make decisions consciously together, with an eye to long-term impact rather than short-term profit.
Not as a break.
But as a continuation.
After several years of planning and development, construction of the Baltic Sea Treehouse Hotel began in spring 2025 in two phases. The development was completed on 15 December 2025.
Today, all the elements come together: the buildings, the landscape, the paths and the quiet retreats.
A place where experiences aren’t staged – but arise from nature itself.
